This is a great book with truly excellent illustrations that depicts the story of one black-footed ferret's release into the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Kit has been raised in captivity and is finally being released by park rangers. Kit must now contend with all of the other animals of the prairie: owls, badgers, foxes, rattlesnakes, and the ubiquitous prairie dogs. Kit eventually overcomes his fears and finds his proper home on the prairie. At the end of the book, there are great descriptions of the Black-tailed Prairie Dog, the Prairie Rattlesnake, the Western Black Widow Spider, the Great Horned Owl, and the Black-footed Ferret.
